Italian-born Berio Gizzi studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, traveling throughout Europe to study the Old Masters. His paintings reflect the influence of Dutch still lifes in their attention to detail and juxtaposition of eclectic objects. Figs, Bread and Prosciutto is one of a series celebrating the many variations of color and texture in a mundane object. In The Fenway, Berio examines the exuberant variety of nature, creating his vision of an outdoor still life.
